I grew up near
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and my family lived next to a 36-hole
public golf course. I was a sports junkie and got hooked on
golfing when I was eight years old. I played in the junior golf
program and had an excellent golf coach in high school.
I worked in the
hospital environment for over 20 years. My husband was getting a
new job in Atlanta, so I quit my job, sold the house and moved.
I had always wanted to be involved in golf so we decided it was
now or never. I was low medalist in my certification class at
Wachesaw Plantation in Myrtle Beach, and successfully completed
my Level III certification. I was 49 years old then; I am 51
now!
I am currently
the licensed teaching professional at Deer Valley Practice
Facility in Alpharetta, Georgia. My students range from
eightyear-old beginners to 75-year-old players, low and high
handicappers alike. With 80 tee stations, an artificial putting
green, chipping area and chipping green, practice bunker, an
indoor teaching facility with four hitting bays to the outside
range, along with an indoor putting area, I am able to help my
students with all aspects of their games.
Being new to the
Atlanta area, I sent a letter of introduction to Dr. Eric
Westley, principal at Holy Redeemer Catholic Middle School. At
that time, golf was not offered at their school. We worked
together and now I am happy to announce that this is my second
season as director of golf instruction at Holy Redeemer.
This summer, I
will be caddying for one of my students in the US Kids golf
tournaments. Through one of my speaking engagements, I am
working on a golf program/scholarship with the Roswell Optimist
Club. I coordinate a monthly Ladies Night Out activity at Deer
Valley, and also teach clinics for the Corporate Women’s Golf
organization in Alpharetta.
