Steve Ooostrom’s teaching philosophy is, “To make the
learning experience as productive and enjoyable as possible
with a main focus of keeping good fundamentals – a sure way
to improve your game!” For beginners and children, he always
teaches the basics first. In doing so, he never changes a
student’s entire swing, as their swing is unique to them and
defines that person as a golfer
From the age of 8, Oostrom knew golf was
his destiny, joining his father golfing at every
opportunity. At 12 he was working his home course back shop,
cleaning clubs and carts and learning to grip clubs. Playing
36-54 holes of golf in a day wasn’t new to him. At 16 he
became the club’s youngest dual open senior and junior club
champion. In college, he was voted MVP of his golf team and
selected to the OCAA All-Ontario Golf Team.
After years of proving himself on the
playing field, winning many prestigious tournaments,
Ooostrom turned his focus to teaching, becoming one of the
youngest golf teaching professionals and course examiners of
the CGTF and USGTF, and being voted one of the WGTF’s Top 60
Teachers.
