I Want To Teach Golf
How to Be A Golf Teaching Professional

Inevitably, there are those who love the game of golf so much that they want to find a way into the industry. Many of these people turn to teaching golf.

Why would they enter this profession? For one thing, it is hard to beat the "office" where a golf teaching professional works. Green grass, blue skies, and beautiful vistas are hard to beat. It's no wonder that many USGTF professionals come from other walks of life. They feel that they put their time into something they felt they "had" to do; now, they "want" to be a golf teaching professional.

You don't have to be a tour professional to be a teaching professional. If you love the game, you are qualified to teach it. The USGTF recognizes this with its four levels of certification, so individuals can progress through the certification process at their own comfort level.

  • The Level I Affiliate level focuses mainly on teaching the full swing, and these members are fully-qualified to teach the full swing to beginners.
  • Level II Associate members have completed the full teaching curriculum, and are qualified to teach all aspects of the game to average players.
  • Level III Certified Golf Teaching Professionals® have passed the playing ability test, and are qualified to teach the game to advanced players.
  • Level IV Master Golf Teaching Professionals® have demonstrated a teaching ability and knowledge that are of the highest level in the golf teaching industry.

  • USGTF teaching professionals can be found in virtually all facets of the golf business, as well as teaching in various venues. While most members are teaching at golf courses or driving ranges, there are those who give their time to civic, youth, and non-profit groups. Whatever goal you have in mind, with USGTF certification, it can become a reality.
